Avery grew up in Mooresville, NC where she started riding at a young age and has stayed with it ever since. She went to Virginia Tech for undergrad, where she studied animal science. Avery rode for the Hunter team at Virginia Tech- which was a huge part of her college experience, and she enjoyed the positive, team environment. She absolutely loved it there and is happy to be back in Virginia with some more Hokie fans.

Avery went to NC State for vet school and was involved in the student chapter of AAEP. Her particular equine medicine interests include sports medicine, chiropractic care, and podiatry.

In her free time, Avery spends time with her horse, Willie, and her border collie, Fife. She loves hiking, pickleball, and card games!

Kathryn grew up just outside of Columbia, South Carolina where she developed a passion for horses at an early age and grew up riding hunter/jumper.

She earned her bachelor's degree in animal and veterinary sciences with a minor in wildlife biology from Clemson University, where she served as Vice President of the Clemson Collegiate Horseman's Association. Kathryn went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Georgia, graduating in 2026 as a member of Phi Zeta and was awarded the John Morton Award for Humane Animal Care. During veterinary school, she was actively involved in the student chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and Omega Tau Sigma and spent her summers working with various equine ambulatory veterinarians who helped develop her love for the field.

She likes all aspects of equine veterinary medicine, with particular interests in sports medicine, podiatry, emergency and critical care, internal medicine, and theriogenology. Outside of work, she loves riding, running, hiking, and spending time outdoors with family and friends.

Cara grew up on Long Island, New York and started riding when she was seven years old. She got her first pony at age 10 and competed in the local hunter-jumper circuit throughout middle school and high school. She joined the riding team at the University of Virginia, where she completed her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in economics and psychology.

She decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine during her last year at UVa, and spent the two years after undergrad preparing to apply to vet school. She attended the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Medicine in Edinburgh, Scotland and graduated in May of 2026. Cara enjoys all aspects of equine medicine, with a special interest in reproduction, foal, and donkey medicine.

In her free time, Cara enjoys long-distance running, reading, traveling, and spending time with her cat, Mao. She is excited to be back in Virginia and looking forward to her year at Piedmont!
